Slam Trunk: An Abridged List of Movie Characters Stuffed into a Car Trunk

Everyone likes going on a nice, leisurely car ride… unless they’ve been stuffed into a car trunk. Here’s an abridged list of movie characters who have been stuffed into a car trunk. Today’s list has been brought to you by the letter “Q”, as in “Quentin Tarantino”.

  1. Was there not a trunk scene in ‘Inglorious Basterds’? I can’t remember, but considering it’s Tarantino’s signature shot, I would have thought there would have been. Which then begs the other question, how will he pull it off in ‘Django Unchained’?

    • Very, very observant. There were “trunk shots”- from the trunk-style angle- but not actual characters stuffed into a car trunk. Like so (when the Nazi’s getting the swastika carved into his head):

Maybe in “Django”, it’ll be a carriage shot.

Follow up should be “abducted in a van.” We could include Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy in WarGames and the senator’s daughter in “Silence of the Lambs.”

  3. I feel really sorry for Boris ‘The Blade’ Yurinov – he managed to escape only to be run over. That’s gotta suck. It’s also worth mentioning that The Hangover’s Leslie Chow w appeared to be in a spring-loaded hydraulic trunk, given the velocity at which he was spat out of it. I laughed. A lot.

You’ll remember in the trailer for the Hangover, he was wearing underwear. According to an interview I heard him give to The Sound of Young America, it was Ken Zheong’s SUGGESTION to do it nude. And he swears that he had no assistance in leaping out of the trunk.

It still kills me that he’s a physician.

    • While “researching” the infographic (i.e. while googling to find out the character’s name in The Hangover), I found an animated gif of his naked ass jumping out of the trunk, on a loop. It was disturbing and hilarious.

  4. fuzzywuzzy

Marty McFly…he gets let out of the trunk by Marvin Berry (who slices his hand) and proceeds to rock “The Enchantment Under the Sea” dance. Chuck Berry is a thief.

  5. There has got to be no worse insult than being stuffed in the trunk of a car. Sucks for them.

Although as a child I did sneak into my Dads trunk (or as we say Boot) and he had no clue, we drove a good 20 miles….He was very unhappy, and I got a good slap. I loved the ride though, really fun!!

    I know, I need help

  6. Great list. A similar one would be in Three Colours: White, when the main character stuffed himself into a suitcase and “sent” himself home to France.

    • One of the troubles I had making this list was deciphering whether or not “trunk” in the IMDb Keywords meant “trunk”, as in car trunk, or trunk as in storage unit.

  7. Don

An interesting sub study would be to count the number of times the person who was in the trunk ended up dead. I think trunks are a bad place to be when you are in a movie.

  8. Kelly

The first character I thought of was Marty McFly, but Fuzzywuzzy beat me to it. The second one I thought of was Simon in Go, when the guys are on their way to Vegas. I never understood why they let him out, he was so annoying.

  9. Took me a minute, but I finally thought of one – the British guy (Simon) in Go. Followed up by him vomiting upon being released!

    • The guy who met Kevin Meany

Go was a surprisingly fun movie. I went to see it in the theatres one Saturday when I was theatre hopping. After I finished the movie I paid for, I slipped into the next theatre and Go was playing.

  10. I loved David Mamet/Danny Devito’s “Hoffa”, but my one disappointment was that he didn’t end up in a trunk.

  11. I mean Jimmy Hoffa….but Danny Devito in a trunk would be cool too. You could probably get him into the back of any compact vehicle without breaking a sweat.

  12. So, I keep hearing “The Droid” mentioned and wanted to check the site out. Very nice, my good man.
I like this list alot. One famous scene in a trunk that popped in my head was Jennifer Lopez w/ Clooney in Out of Sight. I can think of like 3 more but who cares? Anybody that can call back Knockaround Guys is OK in my book. And I LOVE seeing Triangle up there. I’ve been pimping that film hard for the past year or so. Love it.
