P.T. Anderson is back in theaters, with Inherent Vice gaining a wide release this weekend. He has built quite a career for himself. Any conversation about the best American filmmakers working today has to include his name. Over the years, he has developed a style all his own, complete with recurring themes, actors, and even individual elements. I’ve put it all together in a scorecard.

I am an admirer of P.T. Anderson’s films but I must admit not having watched The Master and Inherent Vice yet… I’m still studying his earlier films and Boogie Nights is slowly taking There Will Be Blood’s rank as his masterpiece…
It’s an amazing film. I don’t think you can choose wrong between those two.
I was a little meh on The Master (it’s technically sound but doesn’t jump off the screen the way it should), and loved Inherent Vice, even if it’s lesser PTA.
