The entire country is buried under a blanket of disheartening snow, but there is hope. Baseball is right around the corner. Pitchers and catchers are slowly making their way to Florida and Arizona for spring training. To help ward off the chill, here are the original trailers of some classic (and some not-so-classic) baseball movies.
Field of Dreams (1989)
The Bad News Bears (1976)
Bull Durham (1988)
Bang the Drum Slowly (1973)
Fear Strikes Out (1957)
The Sandlot (1993)
61* (2001)
Eight Men Out (1988)
Angels in the Outfield (1951)
A League of Their Own (1992)
The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings (1976)
The Jackie Robinson Story (1950)
The Natural (1984)
The Battered Bastards of Baseball (2014)
I’m including this one because I think it’s a great documentary, and because I want to endorse the concept of the indie leagues.
Baseball!!! I love that other people get excited for baseball season. Not enough do. Great post!
It can’t come soon enough.
Where is Major League??? The Sandlot, a fav of mine when I was a kid.
Ah, I was a little drunk and spaced on Major League. I even meant to include it.
2 things: Was, “Bang the Drum Slowly” released theatrically? and what is this beautiful looking documentary??? I had never heard of the Portland Mavericks or knew that Kurt Russel’s dad owned a Minor league club. wowsie
That documentary is awesome. It’s on Netflix (maybe even produced by them). It’s a total blast, especially if you can get behind the maverick nature of indie baseball.
