Graph: The Audibility of Darth Vader’s Voice by Location on his Breathing Mask

There’s a lot of magic, both dark or otherwise, in the Star Wars universe. This is doubly true for the villain in the series, Darth Vader. But it’s not all magic. In fact, there is some cold, hard data out there about Vader. Specifically, we can chart just how easy it is to hear what he’s saying based on which part of his face it’s coming from. I’ve done just that in this bar graph. Continue reading

What Disney Princesses Would Look Like if People Would Stop Reimagining Them as Other Crap

PrincessHeader

We’ve seen Disney princesses reimagined in a lot of wacky ways in the last few years. Amongst a thousand other things, we’ve seen them twisted, as Star Wars characters, with beards, with Instagram accounts, and as Batman characters. Truly, the world of reimagined Disney princesses is a rich tapestry. But there’s one piece missing. What would Disney princesses look like if people would stop reimagining them as other stuff? Continue reading

Other TV Shows That Could Take Place in Minnesota

MinnesotaHeader

Fargo made its debut on FX this week. It was a gripping premiere, full of plenty of the shenanigans we’ve come to love from the Coen catalogue. Having lived in Duluth, Minnesota briefly, I got a kick out of hearing locations like Bemidji and Duluth referred to regularly. Then on Twitter, I saw this banter between IndieWire editor Sam Adams and Daniel Fienberg of HitFix:

Naturally, this led me to wonder what other Minnesota-themed TV shows might be created. Continue reading

Quiz: Which Gravity Character Are You?

Facebook has infected the universe with quizzes. Which Geico caveman are you? Which 50s sitcom are you? Which character in Jabba’s palace are you? These are all a waste of time, because I’ve created the perfect quiz. It’s so much more meaningful than the others. Which character from the Oscar-nominated film Gravity are you? Now we’re getting somewhere. Find out after the jump. Continue reading

The Most Delightful Song About Slaughtering Zombies You’ll Ever Hear

Last night, I had the opportunity to check out Cockneys vs. Zombies (2012). The movie was a tad uneven, although it certainly has its successful moments as a horror-comedy. In fact, the song that plays over the ending credits works as a perfect totem animal for the film’s horror and comedy roots. It’s a delightful tune… about killing zombies. Check it out after the jump. Continue reading

Star Wars Lounge Music is a Thing That Exists

The other day while everyone else was working on a Monday and I was on a massive pub crawl because of a movie, one of our crawlers chimed in from the backseat. “I have a surprise for you,” he said to another crawler, probably, but my memory is understandably hazy for direct quotes. He then handed me a cassette tape, presumably dormant since 1999, and asked that I pop it in (yes, my Explorer has a tape deck… shut up). After determining that it was not a new mix tape (“I no longer possess the technological means to make mix tapes”), this is what played, resulting in several minutes of drunken laughter: Continue reading

Tale of the Tape: Wolverine vs. Freddy Krueger

TaleTape

The latest installment in Marvel’s Wolverine film series, The Wolverine, comes out later this week. With the film just around the corner, it’s only natural to wonder- is Wolverine the best movie character that wreaks havoc with claws? There’s really only one other contender, and he lives on Elm Street in Springwood, Ohio. Maybe a proper tale of the tape will help put it in perspective. Continue reading

Great Moments in Movie History (Using Stick Figures): Sharknado (2013)

Sharknado Fever gripped the nation last week. That is to say that an absurd amount of people were obsessed with a movie about a tornado full of sharks. It was the highest point in human history since the History Channel debuted The World Needs Ditch Digging Swamp Truckers or whatever. There’s already a SyFy sequel in the works. But for all of Sharknado‘s bluster, it didn’t really make it big until today, when it became a crappy MS Paint-style drawing with stick figures. I present to you Great Moments In Movie History Using Stick Figures: Sharknado. Continue reading

It’s Ålways Bergman in Philådelphia

Bergman_IASIP

It’s Always Sunny in Philadalphia will be coming back this September, now airing on FXX. They’ve released a series of teasers that pay homage to Ingmar Bergman, thereby creating one of the oddest, most amazing pairings imaginable. Each teaser is riddled with Bergman clichés, and they’re all in Swedish. They’re hilarious, and sure to please the somewhat limited market of people who are simultaneously Bergman and IASIP enthusiasts. As it turns out, I am definitely their target market and I want to high-five the whole cast for creating these ads. Here are the teasers. Continue reading

Great Moments in Movie History Using Stick Figures: The Avengers (2012)

Summer movie season is officially here. There have already been a few good releases, with many more still to come. Still, I’ll be shocked if I enjoy any of the popcorn movies this summer as much as I enjoyed The Avengers last summer. And that’s why I’ve chosen to memorialize it using stick figures. There are a lot of options for scenes, but there’s one that stands out in particular. Its magic was created with the use of two simple words. Continue reading
