Baltimore vs. San Francisco: The Super Bowl of Movies

We’re just a few days away from the Super Bowl, which pits the Baltimore Ravens against the San Francisco 49ers. It takes a lot for a team to reach the Super Bowl. What it certainly does NOT take is possessing a rich movie scene in a team’s home city. But let’s compare the two anyway, just in case this is finally the year where that kind of thing somehow makes a difference on the field. Which city boasts a better movie scene, Baltimore or San Francisco?

Actors and Their NES Game Equivalents

For a brief period of time in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Nintendo owned the video game market. If you’re in your late 20s or into your 30s, then there’s no doubt that you played Mario Brothers, Castlevania, Tecmo Bowl, Duck Hunt, and a ton of other popular games on a NES. Several NES games were tied into movies of the era. And now, some 20+ years later, there are 8-bit screen captures of popular actors from that era floating around the internet. Here are some of my favorites.

Five Scenes that Made me a Clint Eastwood Fan for Life

There comes a time in every man’s life when he watches his first Clint Eastwood film. For some lucky dudes, it happens when they’re very young. Still others don’t get the chance until they’re approaching adulthood, or even actually adults. Regardless of age, most men have the same reaction. The testosterone boils inside, and then they spend the next week squinting at everything and muttering their words in a breathy tone that borders on threatening. “Now, ma, I’m only going to say it once–pass the milk”. For me, there have been five Eastwood scenes that have cemented my fandom for the rest of my life.

There Can Be Only One!

There are many cinematic debates that have raged on for years. These debates provide two options–two icons or two tremendous films–that are strikingly similar, and yet still distinct from one another. Almost universally, they’re presented in black and white. As the title suggests, there can be only one option chosen as a favorite. There’s no room for gray area. I find that notion horribly misguided. I can love pizza and beer equally, for instance. Having said that, the debates are still a whole lot of fun and they’ve made me try to learn more about the other side far more than I would have without the debates. Here are some of my favorite debates, and my verdict.

Movies Made Better With Clint Eastwood

I know what you’re thinking. “Did he photoshop Clint Eastwood into ten movies or only nine?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is Clint Eastwood, one of the most powerful badasses in the whole world, and whose photoshops could make you laugh your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question. “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do ya, punk?
