The Venn Diagram of Green Guys

Since it’s December, the Grinch has invaded televisions worldwide. If you’re looking for a little Christmas cheer, everyone’s favorite pantsless villain is a great place to start. As Dr. Seuss’ drama unfolds, it’s impossible not to notice that the Grinch bears at least a few similarities to some other green pop culture icons. To illustrate that fact, I’ve created a venn diagram.

Review: The Muppets

As of this writing, it’s been four hours since I left the theater after seeing The Muppets. And there is not an ounce of hyperbole when I say that I am still smiling and humming their famous tune, Manamana. In the updated muppet universe, the muppet theatre has fallen into disrepair. A wealthy oil tycoon, Tex Richman (Chris Cooper), has plans to buy the theatre, destroy it, and drill for oil. Muppet superfan Walter, touring the studio with his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams), stumbles upon the nefarious plot. The trio must then round up the old Muppet gang to raise enough money to save the theatre.

It’s Not Easy Being Green: Great Frogs of Hollywood

It hasn’t been uncommon for groups to avoid getting their due in Hollywood. For the most part, women were relegated to second class citizens in early Hollywood. Of course, they had pivotal roles but it was only through the male protagonists that most of them had any role at all. Eventually, this wrong was righted and more and more weighty roles went to actresses. A similar arc happened with African-Americans in cinema. But there’s one group that has never gotten the proper due from Hollywood- frogs. Today, I’m here to help the healing begin. Here are some great frogs of Hollywood.

Seven Things I Learned from The Muppets

There’s nothing like a big slice of late 70’s and early 80’s childhood nostalgia. There were a lot of shows that held my interest when I was a wee lad. I loved Scooby Doo. Heck, Daphne was my definition of the ideal woman when I was 5 years old. The Smurfs were somehow interesting to me, a fact that embarrasses me now. The Dukes of Hazard was great because I lived in South Carolina when it was on. As near as I could tell at the time, it was a documentary. But no show from that era taught me more that would equip me to deal with adulthood than The Muppet Show. It’s time to play the music. It’s time to light the lights.
