Movies provide an escape. They’re a safe way to experience dangerous things that we could never find in our everyday lives. Or at least, we would never experience them in our lives the same way they’re experienced on screen. And that brings us to today’s article. Nobody really wants to go insane. But I’ll be damned if it doesn’t give us a rush on screen when it’s not real. Here are the nine coolest examples of movie characters losing their mind.

Showing films in classrooms is a tried and true way for educators to buy themselves some time. It keeps students engaged with something that’s educational, and it allows the educator to get caught up on their work. Everyone wins. Everyone heaps praise upon the stars and starlets of Hollywood. Few people heap praise upon the character actors. There are lots and lots of fantastic character actors and they make the movies we love possible. Since they don’t carry the name recognition of the top-billed actors and actresses, these character actors have to diversify their range to keep getting work. Few have been willing to do more than Christopher Lloyd. Natalie Portman has recently come under fire after it became public knowledge that she may not have done all of the dancing in Black Swan. It has caused quite a stir, with some people suggesting that she didn’t deserve the Best Actress Oscar that she won for her turn as Nina Sayers. Stutter Island: 6 Great Cinematic Stuttering Problems

I saw The King’s Speech yesterday and walked away duly impressed with an awful lot of aspects of the film. One such aspect was Colin Firth’s turn as King George VI. This was my introduction to Firth, as he seems to have a knack for starring in the type of crap I normally wouldn’t watch with your eyes. But his performance here as England’s stuttering king was quite impressive. In fact, it’s one of the best cinematic stuttering problems I’ve ever seen. Here are the six best:

Sesame Street Goes Hollywood, or Alistair Cookie Has Great Taste in Pop Culture

The other day, I found a Sesame Street spoof of Mad Men, and it made my day. Fascinated by the concept, I kept digging and digging and unearthed several more Sesame Street spoofs, many of which came via Alistair Cookie, host of Monsterpiece Theater. Pardon my lack of originality here- none of this is my content, nor am I going to say anything special about any of it. I guess I’m just shocked that Sesame Street has spoofed all of these Hollywood movies and TV shows and felt the need to share.

100 Things I Love About the Movies

I passed a milestone recently here at TDYLF. Thanks to the help of the editors over at IMDB, I passed the 100,000 Hits milestone on Sunday (with a whopping 80,000+ of those hits coming just since September 30th). To celebrate, I’m beginning a brand new series called “100 Things I Love About the Movies”. To be sure, there a LOT more than 100 things that I love about the movies.
