There aren’t many opportunities to combine two of the greatest things on earth- baseball and movies. However, to quote Terrence Mann in Field of Dreams, “There comes a time when all the cosmic tumblers have clicked into place and the universe opens itself up for a few seconds to show you what’s possible.” The possibility today is that I’ve found a way to create baseball jerseys for 15 movie directors. Baseball fans will appreciate that almost all of these have a direct MLB jersey equivalent. There are even a few nods to baseball fans north of the border. Movie fans will enjoy the symbols and themes associated with each individual director.

If you ever come to NYC, visit the IFC Center. They sell T-shirts with directors’ names made up like heavy metal band logos (Van Halen – Von Trier, Ozzy – Ozu, Judas Priest – Jodorowsky, etc.).

Actually, I have a hunch I’d like Baltimore a lot just from what I know about it.
I know that you would. Extremely cinematic city with a very low tolerance for bullshit…Johnny Depp referred to Baltimore as a “strange navel with all of this weird lint in it.” But it would probably take a while to be able to deal with all of the Ravens fans wearing purple camo pants. I just heard that the New Yorker’s Richard Brody was here for the Maryland Film Festival earlier this month. There is no word if he took in a O’s game or not.
If nothing else, I can always dig on an anti-Yankee city (and apologies to reader Victor DeLeon for that).

As a baseball and a movie fan, this is great work. The subtlely placed logos really make each one interesting. I’m trying to pick my favorite but each one has something unique if you are familar with the director. I’m surprised there wasn’t a director that deserved the New York pinstripes….maybe Francis Ford Coppola?
The catch with the Yankees is that it’s hard to meld two letters together as effectively as the Yankees did. Or in Coppola’s case, three letters. It’s kind of the same reason you don’t see a logo that represents the Cardinals’ classic STL on their hats. When I first started doing these, I really wanted to find a director whose name would evoke the STL… but it just wasn’t there without forcing the issue.
These are amazing. Hard to pick a favorite, but I *really* like the Kubrick one.
Kubrick… I may be able to find a way to make that one work (legally). Keep your eyes open and ears to the ground.
Funny thing is, Kubrick’s one of the ones that’s original. No MLB inspiration at all.

I also wanted to add that there’s presently a group that tries to get back a professionnal Baseball team in Montréal. But without a Stadium it is very difficult since the Olympic Stadium is falling into pieces…
Do the Québec Les Capitales still exist? Not Montréal, of course, but Québec City? I used to work in the same league they played in.
Québec City is my hometown by the way and I skateboard right next to the Stadium where the Les Capitales play! I think they won the championship many years in a row! It is quite popular the 2-3000 seats stadium is almost full every game! Lots of people from Montreal actually come to a couple of games per seasons because they miss baseball so much.
If I remember right, the stadium is very old, right? But very classic? I always heard great things about Les Capitales- their stadium, their fans, and the way the team was run. Their former owner, Miles Wolff, was also the owner of one of teams I worked for. He was a really cool guy. He also owned the Durham Bulls when Bull Durham was made, and he was also the owner/publisher of Baseball America for a very long time.
It is quite old and Classic and just the right size for the team too! There are not as many fans of Baseball as Hockey fans here, Hockey is our religion, but those who love baseball are connaisseurs and diehard fans! Wolff was a great owner and gave back a lot to the community. I don’t know him personally but I know he’s a really nice guy. I didn’t knew pretty much of the stuff you mentionned!

YES! I was hoping you’d catch the Expos thing. The rouge/blanc/bleu was a perfect combination and all it took was a slight tilt to the blue part of the Expos’ M to make a K.
Those colors and the merchandise has been selling more than when the club actually was active. Same thing for the Québec Nordiques.
You know, if people were to individually make their own versions of these shirts, it would arguably constitute fair use and/or parody, and thus constitute protected speech….

That’s a great idea… although I don’t think I could pull it off because I don’t have the passion for soccer. I briefly had the idea for football uniforms, too (for later), but realized that it only goes as far as what you’re passion is about. And as you know, for me, that’s baseball.
Hockey would be great, too. I could fake the interest there with your help.
