The other day, while watching the Slurm Factory episode of Futurama for the millionth time, I realized that most people (including yours truly) have no idea what half the voice cast actually looks like. An hour of frantic googling later, I realized that it’s time to give these people their proper due. Here are eight awesome voice actors, and what they look like. May your illusions about their animated characters not be destroyed.
John Dimaggio
Best known as: Bender on Futurama, Jake on Adventure Time
Dimaggio was the inspiration for the list. And he looks exactly like someone you’d want to hang out with and drink beer, much like Bender.
Billy West
Best known as: Both Ren and Stimpy, Phillip J. Fry on Futurama, Bugs Bunny in Space Jam (1996), a million other characters
This guy’s talent is amazing.
Pamela Adlon
Best known as: Bobby Hill on King of the Hill, Milo Oblong on The Oblongs
That’s right. The voice of Bobby Hill is actually kind of hot.
H. Jon Benjamin
Best known as: Ben on Dr. Katz, Bob on Bob’s Burgers, Coach McGuirk on Home Movies, Sterling Archer on Archer
Or as he’s been known to me every time I’ve heard him, “Hey, it’s the guy from Dr. Katz!”
June Foray
Best known as: Rocky J. Squirrel from the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, Cinderella, Cindy Lou Who from How the Grinch Stole Christmas
She’s the elder spokesman (spokeswoman? spokesquirrel?) of the list, the dean of voice actors.
Maurice LaMarche
Best known as: The Brain on Pinky and the Brain, Orson Welles on both The Critic and The Simpsons, Lrr and Calculon on Futurama
You know you do a great Orson Welles impersonation when you’re paid to do it multiple times.
Rachel MacFarlane
Best known as: Hayley Smith on American Dad, countless voices on Family Guy
As a matter of fact, she IS Seth MacFarlane’s sister, before you ask. However, that’s not at all fair to her and her individual talents.
Dan Castellaneta
Best known as: Homer Simpson, Mayor Quimby, and Krusty the Clown, and many others on The Simpsons
Honestly, I could’ve picked almost every voice actor on The Simpsons. If you haven’t seen them and know what they look like, look them up.
Have you seen the Star Wars Radio Play from the 2012 ECCC? It’s the longest thing I’ve ever sat through on YouTube, mostly because I love Rob Paulsen so much, but there are tons of voice actors (including some you mention) reading Star Wars in the voice of some of their most famous characters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBzRmWeC6Ds
good choice though hank azaria would be a great addition to the list. next hollywood actors voice work on animation…eddie murphy, robin williams, tom hanks, john ratzenburger…
I came REALLY close to including Ratzenberger. I love hearing his voice in kids movies.
I definitely noticed a lot of people involved with the newer Star Wars stuff, although I haven’t seen the radio play.

Great post here. Whenever I see Dan Castellaneta in a live-action project, I’m like, “That’s Homer!”
Loved the Ren and Stimpy dude.
Isn’t Billy West amazing? It’s like he’s been training himself to be “the voice guy” his whole life.
Pamela Adlon is also really good in Lucky Louie.
Also, she’s funny as hell in real life, if you’ve seen her in interviews.
And Louie, too.
The only one you missed is my beloved Jim Cummings, who has done voices in virtually every cartoon released from the Eighties on.
Holy crap… you aren’t kidding. He’s in everything that aired on Saturday morning (and then some).
Aw John, you have ruined the magic!!
I jest. It is interesting to see what these people look like!! Oh and btw…FRC is BACK
Welcome back, Scott!
Pamela Adlon is fantastic in Californication. Had no idea she did the voice of Bobby Hill, wow.
Yeah, I had very conflicted feelings in my special area when I found that out.
Ask any of these actors who the king is, and they’ll all say Frank Welker. It’s a shorter list to say what he hasn’t been in … but most may know him as Fred from Scooby Doo.
I’ll definitely admit, Welker was a swing and a miss on my part.
