Don Draper vs. Principal Skinner

DraperSkinner_Header

Friend and occasional TDYLF contributor Josh Katz recently pointed out an interesting fact about AMC’s smash hit, Mad Men. Specifically, Don Draper’s backstory is eerily similar to the story that The Simpsons writers created to flesh out Seymour Skinner’s backstory in “The Principal and the Pauper” episode. Just how similar are they? Find out after the jump.

Just need Draper on a motorbike saying ‘screw you children’ for the circle to be complete

  3. It’s interesting that you got the spelling of Armin Tamzerian right, but misspelled Edna Krabappel. Haven’t watched Mad Men, but this is still a pretty awesome post.

    • The thing with Krabappel’s name is gonna drive me crazy. And since I threw away one of the linked photos (the header), I’m now stuck without a proper way to fix it.

The funny thing about Skinner’s birth name is that there were so many different ways to spell it. I wasn’t even sure I’d chosen the right one.

      • Sorry about that, if I still had it, I’d check to see if Armin’s spelling was in my Simpsons DVD booklet. I just did a couple searches and that spelling seemed to get the most Simpsons-related hits. As a Simpsons fan, I gotta keep you in check. Loved the Homer thought-bubble post BTW, don’t remember if I left a comment on it.

Been wanting to do a big post about comic books and superheroes in the Simpsons, but haven’t had time. Maybe next week while I’m off work.

        • I found a way to fix it. I’m migrating to better software (Photoshop 3 to the full CS6). But there are tiny glitches.

Please do that article… that would be awesome.

And speaking of design and superheroes… do you still need help with that project that I won’t name because I don’t want to spoil your idea?

          • Yes, though it ended up on the backburner and still only a half-done concept. Hoping my week off of work will be extra productive as a week on my hobby.

  5. Great spot! The thought had crossed my mind too! Also putting monogamy as Don’s nemesis is heroic.
