The Ten Best Scenes from Mel Brooks Movies

MelBrooksMovies

Mel Brooks has been getting a lot of love lately. Recently, the AFI gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award. PBS aired an American Masters episode about him. Last December, HBO aired a lengthy interview with him. This type of attention is well-deserved for a man who contributed so much to the world of comedy in his lifetime. He was the right man at the right time- a brilliant mind, unafraid to cross the line, and he dabbled in rich parodies of pop culture in an age that embraced that type of humor. Here are the ten best Mel Brooks scenes. Continue reading

Icons of Comedy: Mel Brooks

I’m starting a new series called “Icons of…”, in which I’ll shine the spotlight on a hero of two of my favorite genres–comedy and horror. Historically, both genres have given us directors and especially actors whose careers embody all of the things that make those genres so great. Today, I’ll focus on one of comedy’s true titans, Mel Brooks. Continue reading

Movies That Would be Better with Bacon

In these troubled times, it’s easy to become bogged down with worry. Thankfully, we have the little things to keep us going. For instance, there’s bacon. Bacon helps keep us going (unless you’re a vegetarian, of course). And so, I’ve opted to improve a few movies by adding bacon. Enjoy! Continue reading

Rankenstein: Ranking the Films About a Classic Hollywood Monster

Ever since Mary Shelley spent the 19th century’s most ghoulish summer with her husband, Percy, and Lord Byron, a lovable scamp comprised of a patchwork of corpse parts has captured the imaginations of readers and movie patrons alike. Baron Victor Von Frankenstein’s monster has inspired countless films, dating all the way back to 1910. The grades are given using a neck bolt-themed rating system. Five bolts is the best attainable score; one is the worst. Continue reading

Harvey Dent, The Dark Knight
I suppose this also includes Rachel Dawes- both were taken down via explosion. But Harvey’s trial by fire is the one that we witnessed. Continue reading

100 Things I Love About the Movies

I passed a milestone recently here at TDYLF. Thanks to the help of the editors over at IMDB, I passed the 100,000 Hits milestone on Sunday (with a whopping 80,000+ of those hits coming just since September 30th). To celebrate, I’m beginning a brand new series called “100 Things I Love About the Movies”. To be sure, there a LOT more than 100 things that I love about the movies. As such, this has the potential to become a series- 100 Things I Love About Horror Movies, 100 Things I Love About Foreign Movies, and on and on. I present to you the first edition of “100 Things I Love About the Movies”.

Five Scenes That Made Me Laugh ‘Til I Peed (almost)

You know how this goes. You’re watching a comedy and it slowly builds up the humor to the point that you just can’t take it anymore, and your sides start to hurt.

Just to clarify, no movie has ever actually made me piss my pants. Hooray, bladder control! Continue reading
